Description

Desirable 1876-CC Half Eagle AU55

1876-CC $5 AU55 NGC. Variety 1-A. An instantly appealing Carson City Five that benefits from much-above average sharpness, attractive reddish accents, and a significant amount of mildly reflective luster in the fields. Just as importantly, abrasions are both minimal and unobtrusive. The diagnostic die lump on Liberty's throat, present on all genuine '76-CC Half Eagles is easily visible to the unaided eye. With the lowest mintage of all CC's of this denomination, just 6,887 pieces, this issue is elusive in all grades and is comparable in scarcity to the more highly regarded 1873-CC. Census: 8 in 55, 11 finer (11/05).
