Description

1876-CC Half Eagle, Well-Defined XF45
The Lowest CC Half Eagle Mintage

1876-CC $5 XF45 NGC. Variety 1-A. The only known die variety, with the date low and level and the point of the arrow feather pointing to the top serif of the first C of the mintmark. The mintage of 6,887 pieces was the lowest production for any half eagle from the Carson City Mint. This issue can be located from Very Fine through About Uncirculated with patience and searching. Coins in mint condition, however, are extremely rare, only two having been certified. The reddish-gold surfaces of this Choice XF example exhibit well-defined design detail, above average for the designated grade. The few minute marks are unobtrusive. Census: 13 in 45, 29 finer (3/14).(Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25WX, PCGS# 8340, Greysheet# 9062)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
