Rarely Encountered MS 63 1878-S Half Eagle
1878-S $5 MS 63 PCGS. While we have handled a couple dozen '78-S fives over the past several years, the number of Mint State pieces can be counted on one hand. Fully struck in all areas, the bright surfaces are remarkably clean for the grade. The reverse fields are semi-reflective and the coin has an even reddish cast overall. Population: 5 in 63, 1 finer (7/99).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25X6, PCGS# 8347, Greysheet# 9067)
