Description

Lower Condition Census 1879-CC Half Eagle, AU58

1879-CC $5 AU58 PCGS. Winter 2-A. This variety is immediately identifiable by the die scratch through the bottom right of the E in LIBERTY. Even though 200 or more examples of this issue may exist in all grades, at the AU58 level this piece appears to be tied with several others as fifth finest known on the Condition Census. The fields are bright and glimmer with semi-prooflikeness and the striking details are well defined throughout. Just a trace of light reddish patina is seen over each side.
