Description

Mid-Condition Census 1880-CC Half Eagle

1880-CC $5 MS61 NGC. Winter 1-A. This variety is distinguished by a series of raised mint-made die marks below the eye of Liberty and the position of the second C in the mintmark over the right serif of the V in FIVE. The 1880-CC is an available CC Half Eagle, but it is surprisingly scarce in this grade with this particular piece probably a mid-Condition Census coin. The lustrous golden-orange surfaces are lightly abraded with a few small but individually insignificant marks on the face of Liberty.
From the Ashland City Collection.
