Description

Select Mint State 1881/0 Overdate Five
In-Demand Guide Book Variety

1881/0 $5 MS63 PCGS. FS-301. This is a charming Select Mint State example of this in-demand Guide Book overdate, one of the few in the U.S. gold series. It is more properly called an 1881/1880, as traces of an entire four-digit logotype for 1880 are visible underneath the 1881. The lustrous orange-gold surfaces are well-struck and pleasing overall on this coin, but a few stray marks in the left obverse field and on Liberty's neck account for the grade. Population: 15 in 63, 2 finer (6/10).(Registry values: P3)
