Description
Near-Mint 1881-CC Half Eagle
Low Carson City Mintage
1881-CC $5 AU58 NGC. Variety 1-A. This crisply struck
caramel-gold Borderline Uncirculated example is refreshingly free
from visible marks. Luster dominates the margins and motifs.
Considerably rarer than its 1880-CC predecessor, the 1881-CC is an
elusive Carson City issue from a meager mintage of 13,886 pieces. A
single die pair is known, identified by a rising die line through
the ER in LIBERTY and another die line above the C in AMERICA. The
AU58 grade provides an ideal combination of value and quality for
the challenging issue. Census: 6 in 58, 6 finer (2/13).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25XE, PCGS# 8356, Greysheet# 9073)
