Description
1881-CC Half Eagle, AU58
Low-Mintage Carson City Issue
1881-CC $5 AU58 PCGS. CAC. Variety 1-A, sole dies for the
year. Generous mint luster remains on the surfaces of this barely
circulated AU58 1881-CC half eagle, a coin that also offers a sharp
strike, if not quite full, and excellent eye appeal. The surfaces
are medium yellow-gold. A thin scrape on Liberty's cheek and a
couple of blunt hits on the neck require a short mention. The low
mintage of this half eagle issue -- 13,886 pieces, or nearly half
the number of eagles Carson City struck in this year -- makes it
popular, and this piece's CAC sticker will make it more so.
