1881-CC $5 AU58 PCGS. Variety 1-A. Ex: Rian's Bequest. All 1881-CC half eagles (13,886 coins) were struck from an obverse die with a raised die line through ER in LIBERTY. Rusty Goe's recent reference on Nevada coinage, The Confident Carson City Collector, provides an estimate of 115 to 150 coins extant with just five or six examples in Mint State.

Both sides of this borderline-Uncirculated five are distinctly red-gold with frosty CC luster around the strongly detailed and virtually unworn motifs. There are a couple of small identifying planchet voids at the upper obverse. Population: 13 in 58, 6 finer (11/21).
