Scarce, Underrated Issue

1881-CC $5 --Improperly Cleaned--NGC Details. Unc. The 1881-CC half eagle is a low-mintage issue, with a production total of 13,886 pieces. Noted branch-mint gold specialist Doug Winter estimates a surviving population of 70-80 examples in all grades. The present coin exhibits unusually sharp striking details, with prooflike greenish-gold surfaces. The reflective fields are just a little hazy from the noted cleaning.(Registry values: P3)
