Description

Appealing 1882-CC Five Dollar, MS61
Rare in Mint State

1882-CC $5 MS61 NGC. The only known variety from a mintage of 82,817 coins. The 1882-CC half eagle is one of the more available Carson City issues through the Extremely Fine grade level, and is quite popular with mintmark type collectors. About Uncirculated examples are a bit scarcer and Mint State coins are quite rare, especially in MS62 and higher.
Both sides of this MS61 specimen yield generous cartwheel luster on khaki-gold surfaces, and the design features are sharply struck, especially on the reverse. A few inconsequential ticks are consistent with the grade, and some roughness on each side near the denticles probably represents metal flowlines. This piece exudes excellent eye appeal for the designated grade. Census: 21 in 61, 9 finer (5/12).(Registry values: P3)
