Description

1882-CC Half Eagle, MS62
Among the Finest at PCGS

1882-CC $5 MS62 PCGS. Variety 1-A. The 1882-CC half eagle had the highest mintage of the series from this mint up until that time at 82,817 pieces, a production total that would not be exceeded by Carson City until 1891. The 1882-CC five is a collectible issue in circulated grades, but the surviving Mint State population was stunted by widespread circulation of the issue in Western regions during the 19th century. Any Uncirculated piece is rare today, and the present MS62 coin is among the finest at PCGS. Both sides are boldly struck, displaying softly frosted luster and minimally abraded surfaces. The obverse has deep olive-gold patina, while the reverse displays more traditional orange-gold coloration. Population: 8 in 62 (1 in 62+), 0 finer (7/16).
