1882-S $5 MS65 NGC. This example has a mintmark placed low and left, and it is leaning slightly to the left. Nearly 1 million half eagles were minted at San Francisco in 1882, and yet the combined NGC and PCGS census records just 38 Gems and only three finer pieces. This is one of those 38, exhibiting bold design motifs and exceptional surfaces with frosty yellow luster and wispy pink overtones. Census: 28 in 65, 2 finer (6/12).(Registry values: P2)
