Description

1883-CC Five Dollar, AU50
Scarce Branch Mint Issue, CAC

1883-CC $5 AU50 PCGS. CAC. Winter 1-A. Ex: The Fairmont Collection. The Nevada branch mint was not heavily involved in half eagle production in the 1880s (and it was closed for the last half). The 1883-CC mintage of just 12,958 half eagles has left the issue challenging, as only 10 pieces are certified in Mint State by PCGS (3/26). This AU50 is well-struck on medium orange-gold surfaces with faint undertones of olive. Only light blending shows on the high points, and a small nick left of the date serves as a pedigree marker.(Registry values: P3)
