Description

Scarce 1883-CC Half Eagle, AU58

1883-CC $5 AU58 NGC. Winter (2001) estimates that 23 to 28 examples of the 1883-CC have survived in About Uncirculated, with only a few pieces in Mint State. This specimen displays charming brassy-gold surfaces with lots of luster throughout. The design elements are sharply defined save for minor softness on the eagle's neck. A few tiny, unobtrusive marks scattered about both sides do not detract from the coin's overall eye appeal. One of only 12,958 pieces minted. Census: 32 in 58, 5 finer (7/08).(Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25XL, PCGS# 8362, Greysheet# 9077)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
