Description

1883-CC Five Dollar, AU Details
Challenging Carson City Issue

1883-CC $5 -- Cleaned -- PCGS Genuine. AU Details. Winter 1-A. The Carson City Mint struck just 12,858 half eagles in 1883, and with PCGS showing only nine pieces in Mint State, AU-level pieces are in demand (10/25). This example shows slight wear on the high points with good details otherwise. The green-gold patina is warm and lustrous, and only a slightly soft strike shows on the central devices. Hairlines indicate cleaning, but with high-end pieces so elusive, this AU-level half eagle is an attractive alternative for type collectors.

Note for clients in the European Union: This lot is considered by the European Union to be “investment gold”. We believe that it meets the criteria established in Article 344(1), point (2) of Council Directive 2006/112/EC and thus should be exempt from import VAT regardless of the selling price. Any questions or concerns about VAT should be addressed to your accountant or local tax authority.
