Description
Important 1883-S Half Eagle, MS63
1883-S $5 MS63 PCGS. An elusive and underrated date, the 1883-S is conditionally rare in all grades above MS60. The date is a major rarity in MS63, and virtually impossible any finer. In fact, PCGS has only graded three finer pieces, and NGC has never graded an MS64 or finer example. This piece is boldly defined with frosty yellow-gold luster and faint pink highlights. The surfaces have a few trivial, grade-consistent abrasions. Population: 16 in 63, 3 finer (11/09).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25XM, PCGS# 8363, GSID# 9078)
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
Weight: 8.36 grams
