Elusive Near-Gem 1884-S Liberty Half Eagle
1884-S $5 MS64 NGC. One of many San Francisco Mint condition rarities in the Liberty half eagle series is the 1884-S, with a mintage of 177,000 coins, but rarely seen better than MS63. Lower grade coins are considered scarce while MS64 or finer coins are extremely rare. This piece frosty yellow luster with peripheral olive patina. The surfaces exhibit trivial marks, all entirely inconsequential. Here is an excellent opportunity for the advanced half eagle collector.
