Description

1885-S Five Dollar, MS65+
Frosty S-Mint Type, Seldom Finer
CAC Endorsed

1885-S $5 MS65+ PCGS. CAC. An early 1880s lull in S-mint half eagle production ended in 1885 when more than 1.2 million pieces were struck. While many examples survive through the MS64 grade level, full Gem-quality pieces become scarce and finer 1885-S five dollar coins are rare. This Plus-graded Gem with CAC endorsement is one of the few coins the dual distinction. Frosted wheat-gold luster glows beneath pleasing orange accents for outstanding eye appeal. Population: 7 in 65+, 15 finer. CAC: 21 in 65, 4 finer (9/24).(Registry values: P2)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25XT, PCGS# 8368, Greysheet# 9081)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
