Description

1888 $5 MS62 PCGS. Following a mintage of 388,360 half eagles at the Philadelphia Mint in 1886, no business strikes were produced in 1887, and only 18,296 pieces were struck in 1888. This underrated issue is scarce in any grade and PCGS reports just 27 examples finer than the present piece (8/08). A hint of rose in the fields accents this appealing butter-yellow representative. The strike is sharp and there are no marks of any significance. (Registry values: P3)
