Select Mint State 1888-S Half Eagle, Tied for Finest-Graded
1888-S $5 MS63 PCGS. Highly lustrous, with alluring rose-gold coloration, and scattered minor blemishes that restrict the grade. The obverse stars are softly struck, but most of the other design elements are boldly reproduced. Despite a mintage of nearly 294,000 pieces, the 1888-S half eagle is scarce in Mint State, and none have been graded above MS63 by either of the major services. Population: 6 in 63, 0 finer (8/07).
