Description

Select Mint State 1890-CC Five Dollar

1890-CC $5 MS63 PCGS. The year 1890 saw the first coinage of any kind in Carson City in five years, since 1885. Half eagles saw a decent emission, if still smallish, of 53,800 coins, but AU and Choice AU examples are plentiful today. The present example boasts splendid antique-gold coloration and luster, with a decent strike and the few light contact marks that constitute the grade. This Select Mint State piece is one of 25 graded at PCGS, with 35 finer (8/08). (Registry values: P2)
