Description

1890-CC Five Dollar, MS64
Attractive Color, Rare So Fine

1890-CC $5 MS64 NGC. Variety 1-A. The Carson City Mint returned to half eagle production in 1890 for the first time since 1884. During much of that period the facility was entirely non-operational. The 1890-CC claims a mintage of 53,800 pieces. Perhaps five or six examples are finer than this near-Gem. Vibrant mint frost rolls over coppery lavender-gold surfaces, delivering excellent eye appeal. Strike detail is uniformly strong. Census: 17 in 64, 5 finer (5/18).
