Description
1890-CC Half Eagle, MS64
Low-Mintage Carson City Issue
1890-CC $5 MS64 PCGS. CAC. Variety 1-A. Although the 1891-CC
five dollar has a mintage of more than 200,000 pieces, its 1890-CC
predecessor has approximately one-fourth the production. A mere
53,800 pieces were issued. There was minimal collector interest in
the Carson City mintmark during the 19th century, but many examples
were used to pay for imports, and ended up contributing to the
bullion reserves of foreign banks. Those coins typically grade AU55
through MS63. Near-Gems are rare, and only a handful of pieces
grade finer. This lustrous peach-gold example is well struck and
retains original surfaces. Delicate obverse grazes preclude a
higher grade.(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25Y3, PCGS# 8376, Greysheet# 9085)
