Description
1890-CC Liberty Half Eagle, MS64
Low-Mintage Carson City Issue
1890-CC $5 MS64 PCGS. Winter 1-A. The 1890-CC Liberty half
eagle claims a modest mintage of 53,800 pieces. There was minimal
collector interest in the Carson City mintmark during the 19th
century, but many examples were used to pay for imports, and ended
up contributing to the bullion reserves of foreign banks. Many of
those coins have been repatriated in recent years and typically
grade AU55 through MS63 today. Near-Gems are rare, and only a
handful of pieces grade finer. This lustrous peach-gold example is
sharply struck and retains original surfaces. Delicate obverse
grazes preclude a higher grade. Housed in a green label holder.
Population: 42 in 64 (4 in 64+), 3 finer (11/24).(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25Y3, PCGS# 8376, Greysheet# 9085)
Weight: 8.36 grams
