Description
Gem Mint State 1890-CC Half Eagle
Old West Type Coin Extraordinaire
1890-CC $5 MS65 NGC. With a decent mintage by Carson City
gold standards (53,800 pieces) and a relatively sizable Mint State
population, the 1890-CC half eagle is a favorite of Old West type
collectors. This Gem representative is a gorgeous showcase of the
Carson City Mint's capabilities in its last four years of
operation. Apricot-laced gold luster has a swirling, slightly
frosted quality. Small details such as the strands of Liberty's
hair and the eagle's neck feathers are brought up well, if not
completely. Just a few tiny marks, including a couple of reed marks
below the eagle's left (facing) wing, preclude an even finer
designation. Census: 6 in 65, 0 finer (6/12).(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25Y3, PCGS# 8376, Greysheet# 9085)
