Description

Finest Known 1890-CC Half Eagle, MS66 PCGS

1890-CC $5 MS66 PCGS. The '90-CC Half Eagle in Uncirculated grades is the second most available issue of the denomination from the historic Carson City facility, behind the far more obtainable 1891-CC. Virtually all Mint State survivors are evenly dispersed between the MS60 and MS64 grade levels, and number between 200 and 300 coins. The presently offered Premium Gem is one of only a small handful of examples that exceed the MS64 tier. Vibrant reddish-gold surfaces display an interesting mix of semi-reflective and satiny luster that is virtually undisturbed by contact marks. Boldly defined overall including the centrils of the stars, Liberty's central hair curl, and the eagle's neck feathers. Occasional subtle green color outlines the border of the obverse. The collector seeking the finest available 1890 Carson City Half Eagle graded by any service (11/04) need not look any further.(#8376) (Registry values: P2)
