Description
1891-CC Half Eagle, MS64
Ideal Carson City Type Coin, CAC
1891-CC $5 MS64 PCGS. CAC. Variety 2-A. Although not scarce
by mintage, the 1891-CC is conditionally challenging at the
near-Gem level, and rare any finer. This is an attractive Choice
Uncirculated example, with lustrous and frosted khaki-gold surfaces
and a sharp strike. As often seen on the issue, tiny orange alloy
accents are scattered near the obverse rims along with a few carbon
flecks. Another area of orange toning exists just left of the
mintmark. Weakness at the banner border below WE and recutting of
the final 1 in the date are diagnostic of the die pair. Population:
97 in 64 (8 in 64+), 2 finer. CAC: 20 in 64, 1 finer
(3/20).(Registry values: P1)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25Y5, PCGS# 8378, Greysheet# 9086)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
