Description

Scarce 1892-O Half Eagle MS62

1892-O $5 MS62 PCGS. A difficult New Orleans Half Eagle at any grade level and the first issue of its denomination struck at the historic facility since 1857. Just 10,000 pieces were issued. Only a few dozen Mint State pieces are believed to survive, and only one coin has certified above MS63. This sharply detailed example displays tinges of orange patina at the margins and is separated from the Select level by a smattering of choppy field marks.
Ex: Stack's Public Auction Sale (10/97), lot 1105, where it realized $3,300.
From The Barry Donnell Collection. (#8381)
