    Description

    1892-O Liberty Half Eagle, MS62+
    Just Two Finer PCGS-Certified Coins

1892-O $5 MS62+ PCGS. Some might call the 1892-O half eagle a "hidden" rarity in the series from a mintage of only 10,000 coins. Clearly the New Orleans Mint had more pressing matters than the coinage of half eagles in 1892. It was the year that the new Barber design was introduced among smaller silver coins with a production of almost 7 million coins. That same year, nearly 3 million silver dollars were minted. Only half eagles and eagles were minted among gold coins at New Orleans in 1892.
This lovely specimen has frosty yellow luster with a hint of green. Both sides have excellent design definition including sharp central and peripheral details. Surface marks are minimal and consistent with the grade. Population: 1 in 62+, 2 finer (3/11).(Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 25Y8, PCGS# 8381)
