Description

Interesting MS64 1892-S Half Eagle

1892-S $5 MS64 ★ NGC. CAC. The mintmark appears repunched, and there is a faint outline of the earlier "S" just east of its current location. Such a variety is unlisted in Breen (1988). The vast majority of 1892-S half eagles saw extensive circulation; Mint State specimens are scarce. Choice examples are decidedly rare, while better examples are virtually impossible to find. This deep yellow coin boasts a strong strike and highly reflective fields. An interesting piece for the specialist. Census: 5 in 64, 1 finer (6/09).(Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25Y9, PCGS# 8382, Greysheet# 9089)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
