Description
1893-CC Five Dollar, AU55
Final Carson City Half Eagle
1893-CC $5 AU55 PCGS. Winter 2-A. A change in administration
lead to the suspension of coinage operations at Carson City
following the 1893 production runs. A scandal involving internal
theft in 1895 sealed the branch mint's fate, with production
operations permanently concluded. The last-year issue of 60,000
half eagles was at full capacity, and produced pieces known for
impressive luster. This AU55 example displays straw-gold patina
accented with soft lilac and rose within the protected spaces. Mild
flashes of reflectivity are released from the fields during
rotation, and while much of the original luster remains frosty,
light circulation is noted. Abrasions are scattered and light, with
none individually bothersome.(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25YB, PCGS# 8384, Greysheet# 9090)
