Description

1893-CC Half Eagle, MS63
Frosty, Honey-Gold Luster

1893-CC $5 MS63 PCGS. Winter 1-A. Date and mintmark placement confirm the Winter die pairing, along with a short tine that extends upward from the dentils below star 1. The final Carson City half eagle boasts a mintage of 60,000 pieces, rendering it regularly available in many grades. However, pieces as fine as MS63 are scarce, and higher-grade coins are rare. Additionally, the number of pieces that appear at auction in these grades is lower than one would expect for the certified population, suggesting the issue is underrated in these upper grades. This Select example displays frosty honey-gold luster and is well struck, with minor marks for the grade. The obverse especially is quite well preserved for the MS63 designation. Population: 46 in 63 (5 in 63+), 8 finer (12/24).(Registry values: P2)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25YB, PCGS# 8384, Greysheet# 9090)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
