Description

1893-CC Five Dollar, MS64+
Rare at This Grade Level
Just Four Pieces Certified Finer

1893-CC $5 MS64+ NGC. CAC. Variety 1-A. The Carson City Mint was in full swing throughout the first half of 1893, only to have all coinage operations suspended at mid-year. Just 60,000 half eagles were struck. While sufficient 1893-CC half eagles survive for collectors in lesser grades, near-Gem examples are rare and finer pieces are nearly unobtainable, tucked away in advanced collections.

This high-end Choice Uncirculated example displays both the NGC Plus designation and CAC endorsement. Gleaming orange-gold surfaces show only incidental tiny ticks, while the strike is super-sharp in all respects. Traces of prooflikeness surround the portrait, while the balance of the coin is smoothly frosted and highly lustrous. Eye appeal is that of a fully Gem coin. Census: 10 in 64 (1 in 64+), 4 finer. CAC: 3 in 64, 0 finer (10/19).(Registry values: P2)
