Description
Outstanding 1893-CC Five Dollar, MS64
1893-CC $5 MS64 NGC. Its status as the final year of issue for Carson City half eagles makes the 1893-CC a popular coin. The issue is common in circulated grades, and is relatively easy to locate in the lowest Mint State levels. It becomes rare in MS63 and "very rare" any finer (Douglas Winter, Gold Coins of the Carson City Mint, 2001).Effusive yellow-gold luster adorns both sides of this outstanding near-Gem, each of which reveals just a few minute contacts that barely preclude full Gem classification. This is a significant attribute, as Winter notes that Mint State 1893-CC five dollar specimens, along with most issues from Carson City, are often seen heavily abraded. A solid strike brings out excellent definition on all of the design elements.(Registry values: P2)
