Description

1898 Five Dollar, Rare MS66
Semiprooflike CAC Coin

1898 $5 MS66 PCGS. CAC. Although it is considered a readily available late-series half eagle, the 1898 issue is undeniably scarce in near-Gem or finer grades. This is an exceptional Premium Gem example, with partially prooflike fields and brilliant cartwheel luster. A needle-sharp strike exists throughout both sides. Only a few minuscule marks are seen under magnification. Attractive sun-gold color radiates from the CAC-approved surfaces, while eye appeal is suitably strong for the lofty assigned grade. The 1898 half eagle is essentially uncollectible any finer. PCGS Population: 6 in 66, 1 finer. CAC: 1 in 66, 0 finer (3/26).
