Pretty, Boldly Struck Gem 1898-S Half Eagle
1898-S $5 MS65 NGC. An extremely pretty representative of this issue, coated with deep, consistent honey-gold patina on both sides. The bold strike encompasses the eagle's neck and head, the shield and stripes, the claws and fletchings, and Liberty's highpoint hair. A single dot of dark toning above Liberty's eyebrow is undistracting and only faintly visible without a loupe.
