Description
1898-S Five Dollar, MS65
Underappreciated Issue
1898-S $5 MS65 PCGS. The 1898-S has a production of nearly
1.4 million pieces, but is significantly scarcer in Mint State than
the 1898, which has less than half that mintage. A supermajority of
Uncirculated examples are in MS61 to MS63 grades. Gems are
decidedly rare, especially with the eye appeal of the present lot.
It offers peach-gold centers and lime-green borders. The lustrous
and well struck surfaces are splendidly smooth. Although a handful
of coins are graded finer, any collector would be satisfied with
the immense quality of this desirable Gem. Population: 9 in 65, 6
finer (3/20).(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25YR, PCGS# 8397, Greysheet# 9098)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
