Description

1898-S Half Eagle, Frosty MS66
Major Condition Rarity

1898-S $5 MS66 NGC. The 1898-S is surprisingly rare in high grades given the large mintage approaching 1.4 million pieces and considering the high production quality by the San Francisco Mint for the year. This radiant, orange-gold Premium Gem is among the top half dozen seen by NGC. The strike is deep and needle-sharp, while the high-luster fields are smooth and attractive. A small J-shaped strike through or thread mark exists near star 3. Census: 4 in 66, 2 finer (6/23).(Registry values: P2)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25YR, PCGS# 8397, Greysheet# 9098)
