Description

1899-S Half Eagle, MS65
Only Four Finer at NGC

1899-S $5 MS65 NGC. The small S mintmark is canted to the right, and positioned far left of normal, below the space between the tip of the arrow feather and the left claw. Despite a mintage of more than 1.5 million pieces, the 1899-S is a condition rarity with an average certified grade just below MS60. This Gem is an important rarity, exhibiting pristine surfaces and satin luster. Both sides are brilliant yellow with faint green tendencies. The strike is bold and the eye appeal is exceptional. Census: 16 in 65 (1 in 65 ), 4 finer (8/16).
