Description

1899-S Half Eagle, MS66
Semiprooflike Fields
A Condition Census Rarity

1899-S $5 MS66 PCGS. CAC. Semiprooflike fields are exceptionally smooth and attractive on this high-end, CAC-approved Premium Gem. The strike is bold, and no abrasions distract from the eye appeal. Warm wheat-gold luster spans each side, with some rich orange accents at the borders. The 1899-S five is only truly available in the low Mint State grades through MS63, becoming scarce in Choice condition and rare any finer. This Premium Gem is among the finer-known representatives, and it is one of only two pieces at this grade or finer endorsed by CAC -- a distinguishing attribute that will make it one of the most sought-after MS66 coins known. We have previously handled only two different examples in this grade. Population: 4 in 66, 0 finer. CAC: 2 in 66, 0 finer (3/23).(Registry values: P2)
