Description

1901 Liberty Head Five, MS67
Condition Census Rarity

1901 $5 MS67 PCGS. CAC. The 1901 Philadelphia gold half eagle is not often the first issue thought of for type purposes. Its San Francisco counterpart, the 1901-S, is slightly more available and often gets the spotlight for collectors seeking a single high-grade example for a 20th century type coin. However, the Philadelphia issue is also suitable for type purposes, and the most ambitious collectors can vie for a Superb Gem example. This is one of half a dozen Superb Gems at PCGS, and one of three with CAC endorsement, with none finer. A sharp strike and softly frosted honey-gold luster adorn each side, producing ample visual appeal. Population: 6 in 67, 0 finer. CAC: 3 in 67, 0 finer (11/24).(Registry values: N4719)
