Description

1906-S Half Eagle, MS66
Famous Earthquake Year

1906-S $5 MS66 NGC. CAC. Delicate orange overtones grace the satiny yellow surfaces of this sharply defined Premium Gem. Here is an important condition rarity in the Liberty half eagle series. The San Francisco Mint coined 598,000 half eagles, presumably all before the famous earthquake of April 1906. Given the need for coins in commerce following that horrific event, it is surprising that any still survive as nice as this piece. It is tied for the finest that NGC has certified, with only two finer PCGS-graded specimens. Census: 3 in 66, 0 finer (2/11).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25ZB, PCGS# 8415, Greysheet# 9108)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
