Remarkably Well-Struck

1844-D $5 AU58 PCGS. Variety 12-G. This new and rare variety shows the date slightly further left with the second 4 evenly positioned between Liberty's neck truncation and the dentils. Boasting a mintage of 88,982 coins, the 1844-D is one of the more accessible D-mint fives. This is a remarkably well-struck near-Mint example with semireflective wheat-gold surfaces. The reverse is in a late die state with cracks through the legend. Population: 18 in 58, 25 finer (3/19).(Registry values: P2)
