    1850-D Half Eagle, AU53
    Outstanding Original Coloration

1850-D $5 AU53 NGC. Variety 28-U. Ex: Rive d'Or Collection. The 1850-D is an elusive Dahlonega issue, with an estimated survivorship of only 125 to 175 coins in all grades. Doug Winter considers this date "scarce and undervalued." The present About Uncirculated example displays lovely original patina with shades of deep amber and violet in the fields and olive-gold elsewhere. Detail is strong, and scattered light abrasions are not bothersome.
