Description

1856-D Half Eagle, AU53
Better Dahlonega Issue

1856-D $5 AU53 PCGS Secure. CAC. Variety 39-FF. Doug Winter considers the 1856-D a scarce, underrated issue in the Dahlonega half eagle series, although a significant portion of the survivorship is in AU grades, creating opportunity for collectors seeking an attractive piece. This AU53 example displays bright yellow-gold surfaces and relatively few abrasions. Little wear is present, but considerable strike weakness affects the central high points on each side. Population: 11 in 53, 46 finer. CAC: 4 in 53, 4 finer (10/18).(Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25UX, PCGS# 8268, Greysheet# 9019)
