    1861-C Half Eagle, XF40
    Popular Final Charlotte Mint Issue

1861-C $5 XF40 PCGS. Variety 1. The 1861-C half eagle is the last issue from the Charlotte Mint, with a mintage of 6,879 pieces. A portion of this production (887 examples) was struck after the Confederacy seized the facility on April 20. This lightly worn and lightly abraded specimen retains much original mint luster and shows the die crack through AMERI that is often associated with the Confederate striking (positive identification of the Confederate issue is not possible, however). Housed in a green label holder. Population: 15 in 40, 80 finer (2/16).
