    Description

    1862 Five Dollar, MS61
Only Five Mint State Pieces Certified

1862 $5 MS61 PCGS. With a mintage of 4,430 pieces, the 1862 Philadelphia half eagle is scarce in all grades with fewer than 100 pieces believed known. Since 2005, we have handled only a single Mint State example of this date, an MS60 PCGS coin that appeared in lot 4526 of our April 2013 Central States Signature sale, where it realized $17,625. The certified population of Uncirculated coins consists of an MS60, two MS61, and an MS62 at PCGS with a single MS62 at NGC (8/16). This piece is sure to excite bidders. The strike is sharp, and each side displays original olive-gold coloration with luster in the protected regions of the fields. Scattered surface chatter determines the grade but there are no individually significant abrasions. Quite appealing for the issue.(Registry values: P7) (NGC ID# 25VP, PCGS# 8292)

    Weight: 8.36 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
