1880 $5 MS66 PCGS. CAC. The PCGS CoinFacts plate coin. David Akers once wrote, "The 1880 is common in all grades and is readily obtainable even in Choice Uncirculated condition." While it is true that Choice representatives are obtainable, Gems are rare. Premium Gems like the one offered here are the finest quality known. The PCGS Population Report shows four MS66 submissions, while the NGC Census lists two more in that grade. CAC has approved two examples at this unsurpassed level (8/18).

Shimmering rose-gold surfaces radiate vibrant frost. Greenish elements appear on each side, adding to the eye appeal and confirming the originality of this marvelous Registry-grade half eagle. The devices are sharply struck with inconsequential softness on the central curls and the eagle's talons. An alloy spot below the I in UNITED will identify the coin in future appearances.(Registry values: P2)
