PCGS 1854-C VF 30. A scarce and underrated date that is more difficult than one might imagine judging from the mintage of almost 40,000 pieces. Generally not located any finer than VF or XF, of the seven pieces we have sold over the past 14 months only one has graded AU. This is an original coin but is ill-defined in the centers and shows several facial blemishes. Rich reddish color covers both sides. Trends $695 in VF 20, $1,650 in XF 40. (NGC ID# 25UH, PCGS# 8257)
